This 25th anniversary Brunetti mystery is sheer perfection. He gains considerable insight into Commisario Griffoni, whom he's know for years and yet knows little about except that she's from Naples. What he learns now helps solve a case that he's not sure is a case until he's involved many of his coworkers. We also see more of Brunetti's family, always a delight, usually at mealtimes, when the food is lovingly described. The story involves many of the dark issues of life in Venice--pollution, corruption, etc, which always arise in these stories. Yet the mood is lighter than in most, as Brunetti and crew bring not just justice, but happiness and peace to several beleaguered people.
