Good title for a mystery novel that features a deaf character as the sleuth. The action in the novel moves along swiftly from the finding of a body in the river to identifying possible suspects to increasing tension with a chase through snow covered woods where the murderer is finally confronted. However, one annoying habit of the female sleuth, Amanda, is that she fingers several people, one at a time, to her buddy, Jake, the policeman, for the murder of the nurse. When one suspect has an alibi, Amanda quickly can identify another suspect, and when that person is cleared, she has no trouble being suspicious of another person as she follows clues from emails, medical files, eye witness accounts, etc. In each case, she confronts the people she suspects almost like a teenager rather than an adult. The theme is one not often addressed in mystery books - medical malpractise. Also, not often is the main character suffering from a hearing impairment with a guide dog as her companion. The book, shorter than most mystery books, takes little time to read yet delivers a satisfying read. At the end, the author ties up all loose threads with explanations.
