This visionary YA novel by director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak) and writer Daniel Kraus centers around 15 year old Jim Sturges Jr., a young boy who is thrust into the magical underground world of trolls. Jim must take up the trollhunter mantle to save the world from a maleficent force that could destroy everything and everyone. Although much darker and adult oriented than its Netflix counterpart (there are some bits that made me squirm a bit), Trollhunters is an engaging read with plenty of mystery that fans of Percy Jackson will enjoy. And, part of the fun of reading Trollhunters is seeing how the book was modified for television adaptation. I loved both even though they are vastly different in regards to characterization, tone, and plot. Highly recommended!

This book was okay. A bit boring at the beginning but finished of great. Would recommend it to someone who liked Percy Jackson.

I loved the prologue of this book but the begging was a bit boring because it didn't involve the gory, fighting, troll ideas. However towards the end it picked back up to the exciting part. My favourite scene was when Tub cut the troll and slit the gallbladder. It was detailed when you read it. Overall I'd say this is a 6.5/10

This book was a bit disappointing for me. I was so excited to be reading something by Guillermo del Toro that I was just hoping for more. It definitely read as a middle grade book, even though the main characters were freshmen in high school - the drama of having a crush, the bullying, the battling of monsters felt reminiscent of a weaker Percy Jackson. Overall, this was underwhelming.
