One of my favorite authors. Follow Louisiana on her journey to find herself and her home.
Louisiana's running commentary on the world around her is hilarious. By the time I got used to her random observations, I was hooked and began to enjoy the meaningful connections DiCamillo builds between Louisiana and her world. A great ending!!
One of the several things I loved about this book was the author's careful descriptions of the adult characters. While I liked the kids immediately, I had to keep reading as the adults proved themselves worthy of Louisiana's trust - or not. I also liked how one of the adults is such a complicated person that's it hard to decide whether to trust her or not, or like her or not, or even understand her...
As usual, DeCamillo captures my heart in a story meant for children. Introduced to us in Β¬Raymie Nightengale, Louisiana has enough sorrow and love to fill a book all by herself. Abandoned by a woman she thinks is her real grandmother in a strange town, Louisiana takes on life and find home is where you are loved, and that may not be with the people to whom you are related.
Welcome to the world of middle grade fiction, Louisiana Elefante. Your story is told with such grace and I happily devoured it in less than a day. If you loved Raymie Nightingale, you have to get to know Louisiana immediately. Highly recommended!
