Supporting Newcomers, Immigrants, Refugees and their families in their settlement journey. CDCD offers confidential, culturally sensitive information and referral services at no cost in the Durham Region. The supports we offer through our Settlement Services provide newcomers with a place to find accurate information about settling in Canada. Our workers provide intake and assessment services to identify the needs of individual clients and make appropriate referrals to address their needs. Some of the services we offer are:
- Immigration, employment, social assistance, transportation, and legal services
- Housing - landlord-tenant issues, support services
- Education - finding and enrolling in schools, digital literacy and other training programs, and credential assessment
- Supportive counselling, problem solving
- Financial supports, benefits, and applications
- Mental health settlement supports
- Living needs/essentials and referrals (food/furniture banks, clothing/household item donations, etc.)
Assistance and guidance on:
- Filling out government forms
- Commissioner of oaths for original documents
- Affidavits, travel consents, and letters of invitation assistance
- Applying for various types of ID such as OHIP, Driver's License
- Setting appointments, such as for doctors, court, government agencies
- Understanding documents and referrals to translation services
